Man arrested in Mexico for Wasco homicide

Kern County Sheriff officials have arrested a man in connection with a homicide in Wasco back in January. 

With assistance of the Policia Estatal Preventiva, Baja State Police and the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force in San Diego, Araujo was located in Mexico and arrested on April 29, 2016.  He was transported to the US boarder and was transferred into the custody of detectives with the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.  Detectives transported Araujo back to Kern County where he was booked for his no bail warrant.

On December 31, 2015, Ismael Ramirez was shot at his residence in the 1000 block of 16th St. in Wasco, CA.  Ramirez died from his injuries on January 4, 2016.  Kern County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives began an investigation into the shooting and developed information that Vicente Ibarra, Christian Gomez, Omar Araujo, Joseph Gamboa and Freddie Santa Cruz were responsible for the shooting death of Ramirez.

Arrest warrants were obtained for all of the suspects for murder, gang participation and various firearms charges.  All of the suspects had been arrested, except for Araujo.  Detectives developed information that Araujo had fled to Mexico and was hiding there. 

All of the suspects are currently in custody and waiting further court hearings.

Araujo will appear in court on August 23rd.
