Officer shoots dog in Ridgecrest after dog attacks owner, others

Posted

A dog was shot by Ridgecrest police Sunday after the dog started attacking the owner and others.

Police were called to a home on W. Mariposa Avenue around 9:30 p.m.

The dog owner had the dog pinned on the ground in order to keep the dog from attacking the owner.

The owner was severely injured from the dog mauling him. The dog also bit another resident during the incident.

The dog bit another officer in the arm and hand while the owner was receiving medical treatment.

A Taser had no effect on the dog and the dog was able to break free.

Fearing the dog would continue attacking, an officer used lethal force to stop the dog as it started running back toward officers and the victim.

Both the officer and owner were transported back to the hospital for their injuries.
