Officials with the Naval Criminal Investigative Services Public Affairs confirmed the identity of the person killed while trying to enter Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake illegally.

According to NCIS, Lisa Marie Kopeczy-West, 56, of Oceanside, Calif. was killed on May 6 after her vehicle hit a barrier at a high rate of speed.

Officials said Kopeczy-West was not a military member or dependent and has no known ties to the base.

According to a press release from NAWS China Lake, at about 7:30 that morning Kopeczy-West tried to "gain unauthorized access" to the facility. That led to the closure of the facility's "main entry control point/gate."

A "final denial barrier" was deployed, leading the vehicle to run into it at a high rate of speed, killing Kopeczy-West.

Next of kin has been notified. This investigation is ongoing.
