UPDATE (April 26, 2017 3:50 p.m.): The pedestrian hit by a train in Shafter Tuesday has been identified as Nathaniel Bojorquez, an 8th grader in the Richland School District.
The district sent a letter home to parents of kids in the district. The letter asked parents to talk to students about walking to and from school safely.
Counseling is also available to students who request it.

A train reportedly hit a pedestrian at Shafter Avenue and Central in Shafter.
The pedestrian died.
