BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The trial of a man accused of killing his mother and stepfather, then Facetimed the crime scene to family in Scotland, is expected to start in November.
Derek Connell is charged with two counts of first degree murder for allegedly shooting Christopher and Kim Higginbotham to death in their Lily Pad Court home in 2016.
Court document obtained by 23ABC News showed Connell told police "I believe I killed my parents" when they interviewed him. Investigators say Connell's story changed several times throughout the interviewing process.
Connell said he could not picture how it happened but told investigators it happened "because of my drinking."
The documents also show that Connell Facetimed the scene, including his parents' bodies to an aunt in Scotland.
A readiness hearing is set for October 25, with the trial expected to start on November 4.
