BPD investigating after woman found dead behind Burger King on Union Avenue

UPDATE at 10:47 a.m. on 11.11.2019: The Kern County Coroner has identified 49-year-old Priscilla Jeanette Barrera-Smith as the woman found dead on Sunday in the area of 34th Street and Union Avenue. Officials said a postmortem examination will be conducted to determine Barrera-Smith's cause and manner of death.

As of now, officials have not confirmed the date and time of Barrera-Smith's death.


The Bakersfield Police Department says the woman found dead behind a Burger King on Union Avenue Sunday morning is Hispanic and in her late 40s.

Her age is the first piece of information the department has provided since locating her body shortly after noon.

Officials said they are considering the death suspicious at this time.

The woman's identity will be released by the Kern County Sheriff's Coroner at a later time, according to a BPD press release.
