BPD: Man fatally shot at downtown Amtrak Station

Video has surfaced of the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding man at a Amtrak Station in downtown Bakersfield.

On Monday, at about 9:30 a.m. the Bakersfield Police Department received a report of a male brandishing a knife and threatening employees at the Amtrak Station in downtown Bakersfield at 601 Truxtun Avenue.

Several minutes later, a second call was received from an employee of Amtrak who stated this same suspect was now charging at employees with a knife. 

Within minutes of the second call, a Bakersfield police detective arrived and contacted the suspect. During the contact, the Detective fired shots, striking the suspect.

The Detective immediately called for medical aid and he and other responding officers provided first aid until Hall Ambulance and Bakersfield City Fire personnel arrived.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene and a knife was recovered. No other people were injured as a result of the officer involved shooting.
