Nearly two pounds of cocaine worth $50,000 from the Kern County Sheriff's Office property room is unaccounted for, KCSO said Thursday.

This is the latest discovery in a long, unfolding drug scandal within the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff"s Office.

KCSO said the missing 1.9 pounds of cocaine is linked to a federal investigation into former BPD detective, Damacio Diaz. Diaz was sentenced in October of last year for bribery, possession, and attempted possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Just last week,ex-KCSO deputies Logan August and Derrick Penney were sentenced to three years of probation each, for their roles in a drug-selling scheme. August and Penney admitted to working with former BPD officer Patrick Mara and Diaz in selling marijuana.
