Accused child abductor takes plea deal

A man accused of attempting to kidnap a child in the 500 block of 28th Street while under the influence of "Spice" took a plea deal today.

Clarence Dupree pleaded no contest to willful cruelty to a child, two counts of vandalism less than $400, and petty theft. Seven other charges were dropped.

Last month, Dupree had entered a storage shed in the 500 block of 28th Street and removed property.

Dupree was confronted by the homeowner and a struggle ensued. After Dupree fled, he attempted to strike a female citizen with a metal pole.

The investigation also revealed Dupree tried to grab a six-year-old female after he attempted to kidnap the four-year-old. Family members were able to rescue the second juvenile.

Dupree is set for sentencing on May 31.
