The American Civil Liberties Union and Covington and Burling LLP filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration in an attempt to challenge the president's transgender service member ban.

The transgender ban would stop allowing transgender service members from continuing their service in the military, receiving medically necessary healthcare, and banning men and woman who are transgender from enlisting all together.

ACLU of Maryland, along with five transgender service members are credited for filing the lawsuit.

The lawsuit argues the service ban violates the constitutional guarantees of equal protection and substantive due process.

The lawsuit also argues the ban discriminates based on sex and transgender status.
