After more than 15 hours, a standoff in McFarland is over.

McFarland Police Chief Scott Kimble said Thursday morning that 32-year-old Samuel Gonzalez was taken into custody after SWAT entered his home following the standoff that started at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday.

According to Kimble, officers were called out to a home at the McFarland Village Apartments on Kendrea Street at about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday for a domestic argument between a husand and wife.

Police say they tried making contact with Gonzalez, but he didn't open the door to his home and began placing things in front of it, to keep cops from getting in.

Police say Gonzalez does have at least one gun and is on active Post Release Community Release for weapons charges.

McFarland Police, Kern County Sheriff's Office and Bakersfield Police SWAT units tried making contact with Gonzalez. At about 11 p.m. Wednesday, after tear gas was shot into the home, Gonzalez apparently fired shots toward SWAT. No one was hit.

SWAT took Gonzalez into custody. He was being transported to a nearby hospital.
