Authorities are saying that throughout the past few years they have seen crime decrease at the Kern County Fair.

There is a heavy police presence that is patrolling the fair and this makes some families feel a greater sense of safety.

Carlos Hernandez was with his family at the fair this evening. He says he has gone to the fair before and even though tonight was his first night at the fair, he says he felt safe bringing his family.

Hernandez says he saw plenty of officers patrolling the area and it makes him feel safer while he is at the fair.

Lt. James Morrison with the Kern County Sheriff's Office says the logistics of the fair has had a lot to do with greater safety.

"Over the last couple of years there hasn't been any major issues at the fair. A lot of that has to do with the fair folks changing the agenda and some of the entertainment coming in and attractions that are more family oriented.

Authorities say they have many officers at the fair, but this doesn't mean they are under-staffed throughout other parts of Bakersfield and Kern County.

The officers working the fair are working on their days off.
