July Fourth is known for barbecues and beach time, but according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it’s also the deadliest day on the road. IIHS says intoxication is a significant factor in vehicle fatalities on this American holiday, with 47% involving at least one driver with a blood-alcohol concentration of at least .08  - the limit at which drivers are considered legally drunk.

Did you know?

  • The National Safety Council reports more than 38,000 roadway fatalities occurred last year – the highest count since 2008.
  • Preventable human factors, like drunk, distracted and drowsy driving; speeding and failure to use safety features contribute to 94% of car cashes

In an effort to boost the discussion about safe driving, Allstate is releasing its 12th annual Best Drivers Report®.
