What was considered a threat concentrated in the Caribbean, South and Central American countries, is now affecting us here in the United States, with the amount of cases increasing.

Based on research, HealthGrove released the top 50 U.S. cities most at-risk for the virus, and Bakersfield, along with 4 other California cities made the list.

The majority of the U.S. cities considered at-risk are in Florida and the southeastern United States.

Two major facts that may potentially impact the Zika outbreak include population and the amount of citizens traveling to countries under the CDC Zika travel advisory.

Bakersfield landed #46 on the list, with Fresno not far ahead at #42, and Sacramento #40. San Diego landed in the #37 slot, and Los Angeles managed to make #14 on the list.

Today, 23ABC will talk to local health officials to find more about preventative measures.
