Bakersfield native Senator Jean Fuller re-elected as Senate Republican leader

Senator Jean Fuller was unanimously re-elected to serve as Senate Republican Leader for the 2017-18 legislative session.
 
"I am honored and humbled that my Republican colleagues have elected me to continue serving as Senate Republican Leader. It is a privilege to serve with them and to represent the constituents of California. I am committed and focused on issues that help Californians - jobs and affordability," said Leader Fuller.
 
Leader Fuller is the Senate's first woman Republican Leader in California's history. She took over the leadership role in August 2015. 
 
Leader Fuller was born in Bakersfield. She attended Bakersfield College, California State University Fresno and California State University Los Angeles. She continued her formal education at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she received her PhD. She supplemented her education with coursework and seminars at the University of Southern California, Harvard University, and Exeter College at Oxford University.
 
Prior to her election to the state legislature, Leader Fuller served as an educator in California for more than 30 years, including time as Superintendent of one of the largest K-8 school districts in the state.
