The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating a suspicious death in East Bakersfield, after a body was found Friday just after 8:30 p.m. in an abandoned burned building in the South Alley of East California Avenue. 

BPD says the Bakersfield Fire Department responded the previous day for a structure fire at the same location, and there are indications the person who died was in the building during the structure fire. 

Bakersfield police and the Bakersfield Fire Department are treating the death as suspicious. 

The identity of the person who died has not yet been released.
