The Kern County Veterans Service Department held a ceremony for the 241^st birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps Thursday.

The ceremony included the presentation of the colors, the national anthem, and remarks from the 13^th Commandant of the Marine Corps.

The Corps was initially known as the Continental Marines, founded in 1775.
