BFD: One hurt in Quincy St. fire

Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at  5:53 p.m, a reinforced alarm from the Bakersfield Fire Department
responded to a reported fire in a single story, multi-family apartment structure located at 618 Quincy Street including 3 Engines, 2 Trucks, 2 Battalion Commanders, 1 Arson Unit, and assisting agencies.
 
First arriving BFD units reported "smoke showing" from the front door.
 
BFD Engine Company Firefighters deployed preconnected attack hoselines and rapidly confined and extinguished the fire in the kitchen and adjacent areas.
 
Additional BFD Engine Company Firefighters assisted with hydrant-based water supplies while BFD Truck Company Firefighters performed vertical “roof-side” ventilation and secured utilities.
 
This occupancy had working smoke detectors that alerted residents and allowed for early evacuation.

BFD Arson Investigators have determined the cause as cooking related.
 
Damage is estimated at $70,000.00
 
One minor civilian injury was reported. No Firefighter injuries were reported.
