The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating after a body was found near a south Bakersfield park on Wednesday evening.

BPD says officers were performing a welfare check in the area of Monitor St. and Capitola Dr. at around 5 p.m. when they discovered a man deceased nearby.

The man, said to be in his 20's, was found inside of a white Jeep near Stiern Park. It's unclear what caused the man's death and no other details were immediately available.

The investigation is ongoing.
