New cameras installed on busy intersections

New cameras installed on busy intersections
Posted

The Bakersfield Police Department’s photo enforcement program began back in January 2003 and there have not been any newly monitored intersections since July 2005.

Bakersfield's photo enforcement program currently monitors eight different intersections in the city limits and now the city is expanding this program adding cameras to the intersection of Stockdale Highway and Coffee Road.  The benefits of having these cameras are -- they're fully automated and provide 24-7 enforcement.  They also allow officers to focus on high-priority tasks while ensuring the safety and security of problematic intersections.

Photo enforcement is used on roadways with a history of crashes, red light running, and speeding – while hopefully curbing any future dangerous driving behaviors.
