Nine-year-old Corte Hylton's dreams of becoming an officer came true on Saturday.

As the young Bakersfield boy continues to battle multiple illnesses, officers with the Bakersfield Police Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Kern County Sheriff's Office greeted Corte and made him an honorary officer.

“Oh it's amazing. It makes me so happy, it's amazing,” said April Hylton, Corte's mother.

And while it may be all orders and stern commands, Corte took full advantage of his time as an officer by giving high praise to his coworkers for the day.

“It was awesome. I mean they're...they're awesome dude,” he said.

Corte is currently living with cerebral palsy, a rare condition of epilepsy, an unknown heart condition, dystonia and more.

Officers in attendance said this was the least they could do for a boy battling through so much.

“It definitely makes you take a step back, look at everything and say you know I'm pretty lucky and I'm glad I'm doing what I'm doing,” said Highway Patrol Officer Malarie Sneed.

“It's really cool to see Corte's positive attitude, you know I know he's feeling with a few health conditions but it doesn't seem to bother him" said Bakersfield Police Officer Jesus Gomez.

"He just really wants to be a normal kid."
