The Kern County Board of Supervisors has okayed a moratorium on medical marijuana dispensaries.

This means no new medical marijuana dispensaries may open and existing ones may not move locations.

The measure is en effect for 45 days but can be extended for up to 2 years.

Assistant County Counsel Mark Nations says the biggest issue with the county banning stories in Kern County is the fact that the county has allowed the stories previously. In order to ban the dispensaries, the county needs an environmental impact report that would analyze the effects of the ban.

Nations says that the counsel intends to do an environmental impact report, but there is currently no proposal or funs from the Kern County Board of Supervisors.
