DOD report outlines number of reported sexual assaults at military bases

Over the course of a four-year period there 32 sexual assaults reported at Edwards Air Force Base, according to a new report issued by the Department of Defense. 

The DOD released the report, outlining the number of sexual assaults from 2013-2016 at military installations across the United States and other areas of interest throughout the world. 

Locally, there were 32 reported at Edwards Air Force Base during that time span. Yearly, there were eight in 2013; nine in 2014; five in 2015; and 11 in 2016.

There were 10 reported at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake over the four years. In 2013 there were four; there were none in 2014; there were three in 2015; and there were three in 2016.

While not in Kern County, Naval Air Station Lemoore, which is also in the Central Valley, and is about 90 minutes from Bakersfield, had more than 80 reports of sexual assault from 2013-2016.

There were 16 in 2013; there were 14 in 2014; there were 25 in 2015; and there were 28 in 2016.
