Former Kern County Sheriff's deputy Ed Tucker recently suffered a heart attack, according to his attorney.

Kyle Humphrey, Tucker's attorney, spoke to 23ABC Friday morning at the Superior Courthouse, where Tucker was scheduled to be arraigned for violating his probation.

Humphrey said it's not clear when exactly Tucker suffered the heart attack. Earlier this month Tucker escaped a court-appointed rehab facility. After he was found in Lake Isabella, he allegedly was seen taking pills. It's not clear if the heart attack was tied to the pills.

Last year, Tucker was arrested and escaped custody, leading to a near week-long manhunt in Kern County before he was re-arrested.

His leaving the rehab facility was a violation of his probation.

He's currently out on bail and back in a rehab program. He's scheduled to be back in court Sept. 15.
