An explosion inside the Edmonston Pumping Plant near Lebec forced evacuations on Friday morning.

Kern County Fire crews received a call just after 9:30 a.m. for an explosion in the generator area of the building. Employees were evacuated prior to KCFD's arrival.

No active fire was discovered, but fire crews remained on scene for nearly 2 hours to check for carbon monoxide. No injuries were reported.

The value of property saved was estimated at $1,000,000.
