Karen Goh has taken the lead in the primary race for the next mayor of the City of Bakersfield.

As of June 15, Goh currently has 18,825 against Kyle Carter's 18,389 votes, according to the Kern County Elections Office. Carter had the original lead immediately following the June 7 California Primary but has fallen behind in overall votes.

Regardless of the results of the primary, because neither Goh nor Carter received a majority of the votes, both will be candidates in a runoff election that will take place during the General Election on November 8. In that election, whichever candidates gets the most votes will be the next mayor of Bakersfield, replacing incumbent Harvey Hall, who decided not to seek re-election.
