Kern County Chief Park Ranger Ron Rice said a man drowned in Buena Vista Lake Monday afternoon while trying to swim.

A 21-year-old man was attempting to swim past the buoy when the current caused him to struggle.

Rice said he was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
