The Kern County Fire Department battled a 150-acre vegetation fire in Mojave on Sunday afternoon.

Crews arrived to the area of Backus Rd. and 40th St. West at around 1:30 p.m., finding a 20-acre fire with a moderate rate of spread.

A total of 30 personnel attacked the fire with a coordinated air and ground attack, keeping the fire to 150 acres. Two structures were threatened but none were lost. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but KCFD would like to remind residents to make sure they maintain defensible space around their home. They also remind residents that target shooting should be done in approved locations, as ricochets can start grass fires.
