KCSO investigating a deadly structure fire in Oildale as a homicide

UPDATE (June 20, 2017 10:30 a.m.): The Coroner has determined the cause of death for 23-year-old Danielle Nicole Karlen as smoke inhalation and thermal burns. The manner is homicide.

UPDATE: The Kern County Sheriff's Department is investigating the house fire in the 200 block of Beardsley Avenue after they found a body inside. It's being investigated as a suspicious death. Family has identified the victim as Danielle Karlen.  

The Kern County Fire Department is investigating a deadly structure fire in Oildale Saturday morning. 

According to officials, around 1 a.m. Saturday morning crews were dispatched to the a structure fire in the 200 block of Beardsley Avenue. 

Fire fighters arrived on scene and found a mobile home and an adjacent shed engulfed in flames.

Crews were able to put the fire out in 10 minutes but due to arcing power lines overhead, they were unable to search the area until PG&E de-energized the lines. 

Once crews were able to search the area, they found one person dead inside the shed. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the deceased person has not been identified.
