The Kern County Sheriff's Office is closing its substation in Rosamond soon, becoming the latest casualty in a series of county budget cuts.

A source familiar with the situation confirmed the closure to 23ABC News, though Sheriff Donny Youngblood said the development was "not that simple" and expected to say more on the issue next week.

The substation had been previously slated for potential closure, but nothing had been officially announced.

The substation's website says the facility served a total of 18,000 residents as of 2015; part of that area includes parts of Edwards Air Force Base.
