The Kern County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting in south Bakersfield. 

Just after 11 p.m. deputies responded to the 2000 block of S. J St. near Ming Ave. and Chester Ave.

Deputies arrived on scene and found a man in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. 

The victim was transported to Kern Medical where he died. 

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and took over the investigation. 

Officials determined the victim was walking down the street when he was approached by a vehicle and shot by one of the occupants. Officials said the suspects and the motive are unknown.
