Drowning reported in Southwest Bakersfield

Bakersfield police responded to a scene in Southwest Bakersfield around 7 p.m. Wednesday night after a report of a drowning.

Someone saw someone in the water and lost sight of them near Truxtun Avenue between Coffee Road and Mohawk Street, according to BPD.

The area has been closed off while emergency crews are at the scene. The incident has caused traffic and impacted one westbound lane.

An eye witness said police were taking photos of what appeared to be a body underneath a tarp.

UPDATE 9:36 p.m.: BPD officials said a man was last seen going under the water's surface in Truxtun Lake.

The unidentified man was found and recovered from the lake.

The investigation is being turned over to the Kern County Coroner's Officer to determine cause of death. 

The victim's identity is pending.
