Fire erupts at Southwest Bakersfield home

Two people injured with first and second degree burns

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Bakersfield Fire Department identified three people that ran from home explosion that led to a large house fire in Southwest Bakersfield Tuesday night.

The three men have been identified as ages 59, 38, and 18. The 18-year-old man was detained but released after questioning. There are no suspects at this time.

BFD Battalion Chief Matthew Perry said around 5:30 p.m. the BFD and the Kern County Fire Department responded to reports of an explosion in the 11000 block of Privet Place near Buena Vista Rd. & Ming Avenue.

When crews arrived on scene they found a fully involved structure fire at a residence. In total. approximately 20-25 personnel were on scene along with the Bakersfield Police Department and PG&E.

Two structures were threatened by the fire, but neither sustained damage.

Officials said no one was in custody as of 6:45 p.m., but did confirm three people who were inside of the home suffered second and third degree burns from the fire and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Arson investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.

Officials estimate $300,000 in damage to the home.
