Briandria Starks' spells two words correctly, doesn't make Spelling Bee finals

UPDATE: The Scripps National Spelling Bee listed its Top 40 finalists for the competition. 

Bakersfield's Briandria Starks was not one of the finalists. 

She got both of her words correct on Wednesday, but did not score high enough on a preliminary test to advance to the finals.

UPDATE: Briandria Starks correctly spelled the word "adversaria" at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

BAKERSFIELD, California – Local Spelling Bee champion, Briandria Starks, is representing Kern County at the Scripps National Spelling Bee today.

 

Can you spell 'lepidopterist'? Well, Starks correctly did, entering her into the 3rd round of the preliminaries later this morning!

 

P.S. A lepidopterist is an individual who studies or collects butterflies and moths.
