A local Tehachapi dog named Hooch was named the 2016 American Hero Dog.

The French Mastiff was found by his handler through the Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue in Bakersfield.

Hooch and seven other finalists were voted on by the nation to receive the honor.

Each finalist won a cash prize for their charity. Hooch won the grand prize of $7,500.

The Hero Dog Awards air on Hallmark on Friday, October 28.
