Taft Police are investing the theft of an automated teller machine from the Taft College campus early Wednesday.

The ATM was ripped from its berth on the Taft College campus, then apparently dragged behind a vehicle to the west end of San Emidio Street behind the Taft Union High School baseball fields.

Few details were immediately available.

The ATM was first discovered by TUHS employees who found a gate at the west end of San Emidio broken.

When they investigated, they found the remains of the ATM.

The ATM, owned by Chevron Valley Credit Union, was located at the west end of the TC campus next to the cafeteria.

It was apparently dragged from that location to an access road between TC and the Taft Union High School tennis courts, then south on Wildcat Way to San Emidio to the remote area.

It had apparently been pried apart by the time it was discovered.

There is no immediate word on how much money was in the ATM.
