Today Kern County’s Mothers Against Drunk Driving hosted their third annual "Walk Like Madd and Madd Dash” 5K run at Riverwalk Park.

The event is designed to bring the community together in order to save local lives and support the victims of DUI accidents.

According to the Kern County District Attorney, last year there were more than 4,000 DUI arrests in Kern County alone. Sadly, 10 people died because someone decided to drink and drive.

This year 17 people have been killed in DUI-related accidents.

Over 500 people participated in today's event.

Ryan Lucker, South High School’s cross country coach, won the 5k MADD Dash run. He finished the race in 15 minutes and 57 seconds.

MADD is the largest non-profit organizing in the U.S. Their mission is to protect families from drunk driving and underage drinking.

This year they are hoping to raise $55,000. So far they have raised $54,000. If you would like to make a donation visit their website
