Neighbors are on edge tonight after a shooting that happened Wednesday night. A family member identified the man as 22-year-old Isaac Cervantes.

Two BPD officers were shot Wednesday night.

“I heard the gunshots in the house,” said neighbor Garcia.

“They were trying to find someone,” said Lily Mendiola, the next-door neighbor.

And Cervantes died at the scene

“It was very scary to me, I knew something bad happened,” said Jennifer Ibarra, a neighbor.

Isaac Cervantes was 22-years-old. He was listed in the marines but had back problems and came back home to Bakersfield.

One neighbor didn’t want to go on camera said her son was with the Cervantes’s family before the incident.

“My child plays with the daughter, and he was there. He said two guys were arguing, I think the lady’s son and a cousin, I don’t know. They started arguing, fighting; [then] I heard the gun shots,” said Garcia.

Officers were called to this neighborhood on Pacheco Road at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday for a peace disturbance, and found Cervantes with a gun.

“Just seeing the cops in action, chasing someone I didn’t know who they were chasing and they kept asking me, where are they, where are they, have you seen anyone,” said Mendiola.

Neighbors say the family is quiet, but very nice.

“They are cool neighbors though, I don’t know what happened. This never happens with them,” said Garcia.

“I feel like they are pretty private,” Mendiola said.

Neighbors are still in shock to see something like this happen…

“I was pretty surprised because nothing really happens in here, outside on the street, yes, but nothing really in here, said Mendiola.

After last night’s shooting, things have calmed down, but people still remain on edge.
