No decision made on future of Jennifer's Terrace

No decision made on future of Jennifer's Terrace

On Monday, Tehachapi’s planning commission met to decide the future of Jennifer’s Terrace that is fighting to stay open after recent concerns about noise levels during events.

It was standing room only at the meeting that lasted more than four hours and it was a back and for between the owners, Guy and Jennifer Williams and the planning commission. Ultimately, the decision was postponed until a later date.

The owners presented their appeal to the planning commission asking to stay open, saying the complaints are unfair. The development services director suggested that they were not in compliance and said they should not be allowed to operate using amplified music.

The Williams eventually said they're willing to compromise to keep their music at no louder than 70 decibels, something the city is going to take a look at.

The Williams think the complaints originated from city councilman Phil Smith, who lives near the venue.

Council member Smith did not wish to speak on camera but did tell 23 ABC news that his intention isn't shut down the venue but instead to control the noise level.

The commission eventually voted to postpone the hearing until February 22nd where they will continue discussing an appropriate decibel level and how the city can monitor it.
