A kitten was stuck in a tree in northeast Bakersfield for the better part of the day on Tuesday. Community members banded together to help get the animal out.

Local authorities arrived on the scene near Bakersfield College to help an individual who was in the tree trying to get the kitten out.

However, authorities did not rescue the kitten, causing some of the community members to take matters into their own hands.

"I just called a tree professional to get help for the cat that's stuck in the tree because the fire authorities that came to rescue the man that was in the tree did not want to rescue the animal," Maya Simon said.

The group of people who were there shook the cat out of the tree and caught it in a blanket below.

"I'm relieved that we got the cat but I'm disappointed that there wasn't anybody with authority that was able to help," Simon said.
