A student from North High School posted a photo of a group of students with a Nazi flag on campus Thursday.

The photo shows a swastika and iron cross on Facebook in a group called “Edgy Bio Memes”. The caption of the photo was about pranking the school.

The principal at North High School, Dr. Mark Balch, released the following statement on the incident:

"I want to make it very clear to our community that a photograph, recently circulated through local media sources showing students displaying an offensive symbol, does not accurately represent North High School and does not highlight the high quality character which students on our campus display on a daily basis. It may not even accurately reflect the true views of students in the picture.

This behavior is not condoned on any Kern High School District campus and the situation was handled immediately by campus administration.

A core focus of our school has been to instruct our students on five pillars of “Stars on Point”.  These pillars are Success, Trust, Ambition, Respect and Spirit (S.T.A.R.S.).  On a daily basis you can find countless examples of students demonstrating these pillars as they act kindly, respect diversity and promote a campus that is safe and tolerant for all students.  This is who we are as STARS.  While a single event can gather significant attention, I welcome you to contact me and arrange a visit to our campus, which I trust you will find is fully focused on preparing students to succeed."
