After a recent string of crimes at, or near Lowell Park in central Bakersfield, parents say they are afraid to take their children to the park.

The latest incident was a stabbing in broad daylight where BPD officers found a 15-year-old with multiple stab wounds just a block away from the park.

Earlier this month, an 18-year-old was shot and killed at the park and just a few days later there were reports of shots fired but no one was injured.

Parents and park goers say they now think twice before going to the park and when they do go, they are extra vigilant.

BPD says they don’t know why there’s been an increase in crime near the park but say each case is always investigated separately.
