A shooting in the Rialto area spurred a pursuit that ended in eastern Kern County, officials said Wednesday.

The incident began as a drive-by shooting in Rialto, KABC-TV reported. No one was injured in that shooting, but police found the suspect vehicle and started following it.

The car gave chase, driving north on Interstate 15 through the Cajon Pass and then north on Highway 395 to the Kramer Junction area. The driver eventually headed west on Highway 58 into Kern County and exited the roadway in the North Edwards area.

It's unclear how many people were in the car and how many have been detained by police.

Traffic on Highway 58 was heavily backed up while crews investigated.

Several law enforcement agencies were involved in both the shooting and the pursuit.
