23ABC received an anonymous tip Thursday about a possible bed bug problem at the Department of Human Services building on California Avenue.

A representative with the Kern Department of Human Services sent the following about the situation:

"Our Housekeeping staff were alerted to a single bug found in a cubicle last Tuesday, February 21st, and immediately inspected and treated the area surrounding that location, but did NOT find any evidence of an infestation. They took additional steps of calling in professional pest control services, and worked carefully to treat that entire area with instruction from the pest control professionals, focusing on carpet, chairs & cubicles.

An additional insect was found this Tuesday, in a near-by area, and the same steps were taken in that area, again with no additional signs of an infestation.

What we are doing currently is closely treating and monitoring the situation with professional pest control services, along with our regular housekeeping. All areas of our building are cleaned and monitored on a continuous basis, but we are taking these additional measures at this time."
