Three suspects arrested for operating 'chop shop' in Delano

Three suspects were arrested for owning and operating a chop shop in Delano.

KCSO deputies were called to the 29000 block of West Cecil Avenue Sunday after receiving a tip that vehicles were being dismantled at the home.

Deputies found 22-year-old Diego Gomez and 39-year-old Rafael Melgoza on the property along with multiple stolen vehicles. The suspects were believed to be dismantling the vehicles for parts.

Authorities got a search warrant for the property and found a loaded shotgun and other equipment.

Gomez and Melgoza were arrested for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, owning and operating a chop shop, and conspiracy. Gomez was also arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

A third suspect was arrested, 32-year-old Raymond Lopez, for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, owning and operating a chop shop, conspiracy, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
