In a press conference on Monday, Madera Police Chief Steve Frazier vowed to have arrests in the case by the end of the week. On Wednesday, he announced that he had made good on his promise by arresting two of the people inside the car, including the shooter.
The two arrested were 26-year-old Serena Arroyo, who police say was the driver, and the shooter, 33-year-old Thomas Garcia. A third suspect, identified as James Cruz, is still on the run.
Early Sunday morning, a Madera Police officer Julian Garcia, with a civilian passenger, attempted to pull over a Mazda SUV. The suspect took off at high speed, and after weaving through some streets, opened fire on the patrol car. The bullets narrowly missed both Officer Garcia and the passenger and the whole incident was caught on the patrol car's dash cam.
