Funeral for Bakersfield Police Sgt. Dennis Moore held Thursday

Funeral services for Sgt. Dennis Moore were held today August 17, at 10:00 a.m., at Riverlakes Community Church, located at 4301 Calloway Drive.

Bakersfield Police Sgt. Dennis Moore died August 9. He was 47 years old. 

Moore was at home getting ready for work Wednesday morning when he suddenly stopped breathing. The department said Moore was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:44 a.m.

According to his LinkedIn page, Moore graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1988. He worked for the Arvin Police Department before transferring to BPD in 1997. Moore was promoted to senior officer in 2004 and went on to become a sergeant. 

A law enforcement motorcade procession will begin at 8:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Funeral Home located at 3700 River Boulevard. The procession will travel westbound on Panorama Drive to Union Avenue. It will then travel southbound on Union Avenue and enter westbound Highway 178.

The procession will exit onto Golden State Avenue traveling north and enter northbound Highway 99. It will exit onto Olive Drive and continue westbound to Calloway Drive. The procession will then travel southbound on Calloway Drive until it reaches Riverlakes Community Church. 

Following the services at Riverlakes Church, a small escort will accompany Sergeant Moore from Riverlakes Church to Greenlawn Funeral Home located at 2739 Panama Lane. 

There will be no formal service at Greenlawn Funeral Home on Panama Lane. 

Traffic delays are expected as a result of the procession as law enforcement officers will be stopping traffic as the procession enters and exits each intersection. 

The public is invited to attend and are asked to park in the parking located on the south side of the church off Hageman Road.
