A woman is in critical condition after she was struck by a vehicle in east Bakersfield. 

The Bakersfield Police Department says it happened around 9:30 p.m. on Friday at the intersection of Union Avenue and Texas Street.

BPD says a woman was walking eastbound across Union Avenue outside of a crosswalk and stepped from the center median directly into the path of a vehicle. 

Drugs, alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor with the driver of the vehicle. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a contributing factor with the woman. 

BPD says the woman was transported to the hospital with major injuries and is listed in critical condition. 

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call BPD at 327-7111.
