BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — In honor of National Police Week, the fifth annual Boots & Brew Country Music Festival will take place May 16, virtually with music provided by The Rivals, a local Bakersfield band.

The online Facebook event is free and open to the public. Those attending are encouraged to share photos paying tribute to law enforcement that day or of themselves wearing any blue line attire.

Bakersfield PD officer David J. Nelson was killed in the line of duty on June 26, 2015 in a vehicle crash following a high speed pursuit in northeast Bakersfield. In his memory, the Nelson family has partnered with the BPD to offer an annual scholarship to graduating high school students of the Kern High School District and a graduating high school Bakersfield Police Cadet.

All proceeds raised via the Boots and Brew event go directly to the Officer David Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund. The goal of the concert is to continue to raise money so that the annual scholarship can continue to be supported.

For more information on the item details and how to purchase tickets please call (661) 366-AMMO or visit them in person at 8032 Di Miller Dr, Bakersfield, CA 93307. There will be a live drawing through the Facebook event page at 5 p.m. on May 16.

For those interested in donating to the Officer David Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund directly, contributions may be made by sending a check addressed to: KHSD Educational Foundation Re: Officer David Nelson Memorial Scholarship Kern High School District 5801 Sundale Ave. Bakersfield, CA 93309.
