KCFD, crews responding to fire off hwy 178 near mouth of the canyon

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Fire Department and several other fire crews responded to a vegetation fire burning at least 20 acres off hwy 178 near the mouth of the Kern River Canyon.

According to the California Highway Patrol's information page, the fire was reported around noon on Friday and promptly closed the east side of Old Kern Canyon and both sides of the 178 .

Along with KCFD, the U.S. Forest Service and crews from Arizona worked to contain the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
